It is a known fact that infants under the age of 12 months old should not consume honey of any kind due to the risk of botulism spores that may be present in some honeys. These spores are harmless to anyone with a fully developed immune system. Infants have not yet had a chance for their immune system to fully develop which is why it can be harmful to them.
Many of our customers ask if they can consume Manuka honey when they are pregnant or lactating. It’s perfectly safe to consume Manuka honey when pregnant or breast feeding because the adult body filters the bacteria before it could do any harm to an unborn child or breast feeding baby.
It is safe for pregnant or lactating women to apply Manuka honey topically to the skin. The topical application of Manuka honey is also safe for external use on infants.
